My career as PC tech/Network admin has jaded me and I have been longing for the good old days of v2 web browsers. When you could type in anything into a search engine and you didn’t have to worry about malware. When flash animation was new, fun and free. When you’d wait for 5 minutes for a jpeg to download over your 14.4 modem. When social engineering on the Internet was the domain of the elite hackers who had morals. Then the corporate marketers took over. Some immoral fucks thought because people are dumb I can load a program on their computer that sends them to my customer’s sites by baiting them with free porn or a great deal on shoes (the worst cases of spyware I ran into was on a compulsive shoe shoppers PC). Well their plan worked and fucked-up a lot of computers. It wasn’t un til I bought a new laptop a few months ago that I started surfing for fun again. Well the Web has matured and with the security built into v7 browsers and some common sense I can enjoy the Web again. I’m a big fan of podcasts(hate the name) and have found a lot of good content like cranky geeks and anything snot posts, lol. I also love wikipedia even though some people don’t trust the content, I’ve found it a great source of information and haven’t found misinformation yet. So will blogs, open source projects and video/audio streaming/rss feeds be the downfall of the Internet as the ISPs state or its savior to a not so average Joe as myself.
