Mikey Snot Is Great
One More Thing To Worry About

Thursday March 29, 2007, Neal
On top of everything in this world to fear now I can add feeding my cat to the list. I only started feeding my cat canned food because he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in November and I needed something to mix his medicine in and to fatten him up. Last week Menu Foods, http://www.menufoods.com/recall/ , announced a recall of their products because they were causing kidney failure in dogs and cats. The New York Foods labs found aminopterin, a rodent pesticide banned in the US in samples of Menu Foods pet foods. The pesticide most likely came from contaminated wheat gluten from Mexico http://www.avma.org/aa/menufoodsrecall/veterinarian_info_acvim.asp. The kicker here is that the pet food killed 9 cats during t aste tests at the company. My past career or life as I call it was as a discovery research biologist at a major pharmaceutical company. If we killed any animals in our testing the drug was shelved. In my readings it was unclear whether the testing was before or after incident reports started coming in. Which makes you want to know how many animals have to die for them not to ship their product out or make the decision for a recall. It turns out that I hadn’t fed my cat any of the contaminated food because it wasn’t on sale last couple of months so I switched brands. My cat ended up liking the other brands better so I stopped buying Priority brand at Dominicks. I guess he knows more then me. Who says cats are dumber then dogs or people for that matter. Now I’m thinking I need to start cooking for him. I said I’d never be 1 of those people. But I started looking for recipes on-line yesterday. So who is more a threat to us: Terrorist, The Axis of Evil, The British, or big businesses q uest for the all mighty dollar?
