| The 4th of July |

On the July 4th 1776 are founding fathers signed a document of high treason, The Declaration of Independence. One of my favorite Ben Franklin quote is about what it means, criminally, to sign this document "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately." What it ment to be a patriot in 1776 was gambling your life and everything you owned for the idea that man has the right to govern themselves. More so that people should have the right to choose who represents them in government. That’s why we need to vote.
I feel that we need to respect this sacrifice. A sacrifice not only made by the rich landowner but by everyone who fought to make the USA the “land of the free.” Because of my strong feelings I’ve been going off about people having to work on the 4th of July for the last couple of years. It makes me mad that so many stores are open and people look at the holiday as a shopping day. Some of these shoppers have their yellow and red, white and blue ribbons proudly posted on the backs of their verticals. Now the way that I look at it, your not supporting the troops or country by shopping on the day we declared our independence. If you’re a shop owner and feel loyalty to your country close for the holiday and give your employees a paid day off. I think it should be a law that citizens should not have to work on the 4th (unless they want too).&n bsp; When I was a kid the 4th was all about our love of America. Now I don’t know. It’s not a Hallmark holiday yet. I’ll give in to grocery and liquor stores being open until 2 PM and let the 7-11 take care of the rest of our last minute needs, but that’s it. I know that I am being very idealistic and not everything we know of our independence or the USA being the land of the free is true. Which is why we need to celebrate the 4th to remind us as a country of where we’ve been, where we are at, and where we need to go.
