Mac Vs Windows
Macs negative advertising has finally got to me. It reminds me too much of Rove politics except the skinny guy in jeans is supposed to be the good guy when he really spreads lies. I used to say the difference between Macs and Windows was like apples to oranges. Which I still believe because every negative thing they point out about Windows is true with Macs also. The main differences are Macs maybe easier to use but cost twice as much, Windows because of the larger user base appears to more insecure but the truth is a Mac is just as insecure. I searched for the number vulnerabilities between the 2 Operating Systems for 2008 and 09 but could only find stats for 2007 which showed OS X significantly more vulnerable then XP or Vista:

The extra cost of Macs comes from Apples control of the hardware they run on which does make it a more stable platform then some windows PCs but not all. If you run only Microsoft approved software on Microsoft certified hardware the Windows PC is just as stable and the cost of ownership is still cheaper. I was hardcore Mac back in the mid 90’s but after owning my first Windows 98 PC I was quickly converted. Now let’s get back to some of the lies in Apples advertising. They made a big deal when Vista came out that people would have to upgrade hardware in their PCs, inferring that you would not have this happen if you owned a Mac. When OS X came out most peoples Macs became obsolete and they needed to buy a new computer also most of the software did not run in OS X native mode for over a year after the release. Programs like Photoshop needed to run in OS 9 emulation mode and then upgraded a year later to run on OS X. So the Mac users needed to buy a new computer and software = over $2000 at the low end if you are a Photoshop user more like $2500 - $3000 for a decent performing computer. For decent performing Windows computer with Photoshop you would spend $1500 - $2000. Even though Apple has full control over their hardware they manage to put out lemons. The first Mac Airs over heated making them unstable. I’ve seen Powerbooks burn out the day the warrantee was up. The truth is I’m running a $300 refurbished Dell Dimensions 531 with Vista Home Media Center and can run Premier Elements even though it takes 20 minutes to render 18 minutes of video and burn to DVD. I need to upgrade the RAM in the PC but don’t want to spend $50. It has frozen up once in the 6 months when Apple tried to auto update ITunes/Quicktime and I had to turn off the enhanced security in IE8 to install McAfee from Comcast. I also have a 3 year old HP laptop running XP media center 2005 which has only frozen up once which was my own fault. Not bad for $600 and all the free software I’ve run on it. My old HP PII350 running Windows 98 still runs while my Mac Power PC died after 4 years. I can keep going on with example after example of the good and bad of both operating systems but the truth about Apples bash campaign against Windows 7 reminds me of Carl Rove politics and the people (actors) who are claiming to be moving to Macs remind me of tea-baggers. If you are going to buy a computer please do some research. It’s a major expense that you will have to live for years. Make the best use of your money and don’t buy into advertising.
PS: I do know people who have had Macs up and running for years. It’s their ads that have pushed me to the point that I would not recommend that anyone buy a Mac, IPhone (good small computer, crappy phone), IPod or any other Apple product. I want the PC guy to call the skinny fuck a liar, light his paints on fire and then tell him he belongs on Fox News.
People no matter what OS you use please remember to backup your files and run security updates. You should always have any files that are important to you in at least 2 places, local hard drive and DVD or local hard and external hard drive. I hope you get the point because I’ve seen to many people who have lost music, family photos and important documents. The bad guys (some hackers and hardware manufacturers) are out there and they’re very smart.
