Los Straitjackets Live at Lincoln Fest
Awesome!
Is the first word that comes to my mind when I see or hear the name Los Straitjackets, started in Nashville, TN for something to do for fun, back in 88'. The rumor goes they never played again until 1994 and then it became a reality that continues to this day. Turning out several killer surf/blues album's spanning six years and touring almost year round this quartet keeps on jamming. I've had the pleasure to witness their onslaught of rock on more than several occasions, and let me tell you, they are a force to be heard.
The band is a mystery. They play only melodic surf instrumentals that have a heavy Fender sound. You cannot see their identities, because they wear Mexican wrestling masks. They do not speak except for Danny who speaks in broken Spanish and unless you understand Spanish language than you are at a loss. I had the chance back stage to take a photo of them without the masks on but like a big drunk, I forgot.
These pictures showcased here are from this past summer in Chicago. It was the Lincoln and Belmont festival this past July. I used a digital camera and my 35 mm camera at this for these shots. Los Straitjackets were a perfect band to end the evening on this hot summer night.
These other shots listed below are from the tour with another of my favorite bands Reverend Horton Heat and the Bottletones. The show was at the Copper Dragon in Carbondale, IL, in December of 1999. It was a drinkin night so I didn't get many good ones from that but here are the best of them.
If you get a chance to see this band I would suggest that you do. For more
info, here is the link to the official Los
Straitjackets web site.
