Where the hell did October go? I mean, it seems like just
yesterday I wrote the end of the month piece for September.
I wrote a bunch of other stuff since then that is never going
to see print, so I will just kiss October 05 goodbye. I even
slept through Halloween, my favorite day of the year. What
the fuck was that. Well it is hard to get excited about things
here when it is just total shit going on and I keep waiting
for the Bushbots of this country to get their heads out of
their ass, but I am not holding my breath. You think with
all the shit the Republicans are trying to pull off they would
be outraged. But of course they have been trained to have
two sets of scrutiny, one for republicants and one for everyone
else they don't like, primarily; gays, liberals, Democrats,
green, foreigners and people like me with funny haircuts (or
lack thereof).
My wife Kelly and I actually got out and saw one of our favorite
bands form way back, the Adicts. They were fucking great,
but the show was running real late and they had like fifty
bands on the bill, so by 11:30 pm when the Adicts were still
going, we had had enough. Father time here has never left
a show in my 25 years plus of seeing bands, so it was real
tuff for me to leave but I had no steam left in the tank.
The show was out in Wheaton, Illinois, for those not familiar
to the Chicago area, it is the far west suburbs. I hate the
fucking suburbs. My wife and I call them "Mallburg".
Hate is a strong word and I try not to use it often, but I
really despise the suburbs. The best thing about this show
was that it was a no smoking show. Fucking great! For once
I did not come home smelling like an ash tray. My two favorite
words in a row, separate they suck, but together they are sweet
music to my ears.
The show was great and what I do like about seeing some big
bill shows is that I may be surprised to discover a new band
that I had never heard of before. This show had a great little
punk outfit from San Antonio, TX called So Unloved.
They were fucking rippin it up. They are a four piece made
up of three little tiny girls and a guy drummer. They were
real young but they tore it up. And on top of it they were
so fucking cute. My wife and I wanted to bring them home with
us. Go see them, and buy their new record coming out on SOS
records. If it is anything like their live show, I am sure
it will be great.
The Adicts are great band. Last time we saw them was at the
now long gone Fox Theater that was in the Bucktown section
of Chicago. It was 1994 and Kelly and I had just relocated
to the Chicago area. We partied with the band late after the
show until we closed the the bar Estelles that is still there
down the block from the Fox Theater. Kid Dee the drummer kept
calling my wife "Julia" like Julia Roberts, they were a fun
bunch and really cool guys. I will be doing a little profile
of the Adicts with the pictures I took at both shows. So check
for it soon. I added one shot to the Picture of the Moment
section here at MSIG. More later....
Sorry for the delay. Time flies when you are old.
